Would a bad freshman year of high school have a large effect on my chances at Columbia University?

eh Columbia is definitely out of the cards, but maybe another strong school, say NYU is still a possibility. Trust me, i freaked out about having a 3.9 freshmen year, and how that would negatively impact my chances to premier universities.
